Effectiveness of Zumba

Zumba® is exercise in disguise and an effective one at that. Recent studies have shown that Zumba® Fitness classes do not only feel like a party; they also provide a highly effective workout.

Researchers from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science conducted a study to determine whether Zumba® Fitness is an effective workout or just fun. The research findings show that “Zumba fitness is an effective interval-style, full-body workout with built-in variety because every class and every instructor is slightly different. Equally important is the notion that Zumba classes are entertaining, which means exercisers are busy burning calories and getting fit while enjoying the fun of Latin dancing.” The researchers were quite surprised to find out that the participants fitness level doesn’t matter. Everyone is working out at the recommended level for improving cardio health. Zumba® is providing an equally good workout for both the fit and the less-fit people.

Another study found that one of the most impressive aspects of Zumba® is how much it can motivate people to be active who generally stay away from exercise. The majority of a studies’ participants kept going to Zumba® classes even after the study had ended, because it was fun and did not feel like hard work to them.
