Zumba® Fitness is a Latin-inspired dance-fitness class. It was created in 2001 and became the largest branded fitness program in the world for good reason. It is an effective and exhilarating workout designed for everyone. Classes are fun and previous dance experience is not necessary. A Zumba® class – also called Zumba® Fitness-Party – combines exciting music with a blend of easy to follow dance movements and muscle toning moves that help to improve cardio, muscular fitness, coordination and flexibility. While being a great dynamic core workout which basically melts away calories, it also helps to nurture a high level of good vibes that result in a more positive self-image.

History

The story of Zumba® started back in the 90ties in Cali, Colombia, when aerobics instructor Beto (Alberto Perez) came to teach his class and realized, he forgot his traditional aerobics music at home. Instead he used his personal salsa and merengue mixed-tapes for the class, inventing the choreography on the spot while leading the class. Realizing the smiling faces of his class that eagerly followed, he decided to create a new type of workout that will make the participants fit and happy. This is even until now still the most important trait that distinguishes Zumba® from other workouts and makes it so popular among all age groups and fitness levels.

After being successful as trainer in Colombia, Beto moved to the USA and co-founded the Zumba® program in 2001 with Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. Since then, they have turned it into a global movement with weekly 15 million people taking Zumba® classes in 200.000 locations spread over 180 countries.
